Lettering project that appeared in Typism Book Two

‘Faster’ was created as a contribution to the second edition of the Typism Book, a companion publication for the annual typography conference of the same name held in Queensland, Australia. For each edition, conference organiser Dominique Falla invites typographers from all over the world to submit their work to be considered for inclusion. The brief is very simple: ‘make it black and white, make it typographic and make it beautiful’. Needless to say, I was over the moon to have been featured in the book.

‘Faster’ is derived from the same seed and lettering as ‘La Habana’. I wanted to meet the brief head on by creating a design composed of just black and white as much as possible, so using line patterns seemed to be the right vehicle to infer pseudo greys.
